Mike, You should be aware that Wiseco currently has a deal for forged Slant 6 pistons, pins, locks, rings for about $460/set. This will be hard to beat. Search this forum to find their offering, along with rods from K1. I am making no statement about quality between different companies, and I really have no idea about that. Just warning you that Wiseco has just done this just a few months back. The only drawback to the Wisecos is that they are only in 0.025" and 0.045" over sizes. Many people, including me, would like to go 0.065-0.105" over. I'm not sure anyone has these in a motor yet... I have a 0.045" over set on the shelf. Lou |

Hi Lou, Yes I am aware of my competition now having a slant6 piston set available for cheap along with the K-1 rods  . I actually bought a set of the K-1 rods for my 225 because I can't afford a custom set of Carrillo's at this time.I guess what I would like to offer to the group is a special price just for forum members and I can custom make them a piston in ANY bore size or compression ratio that is needed. The only thing thing that is needed to do if anyone would like to order some CP's is they need to hone their rod to accept a .9055(23mm) diameter wristpin. This is because the stock .901 pin isn't readily available in the aftermarket. If anyone is still interested my offer still stands .Mike |

Actually something I would like to see and possibly invest in is a piston with a skirt (or not perhaps) with the pin moved up. I thought they charged Slantzilla $80 a piston to do this. I just want something with the weight eliminated and more based on modern design. Hyper's would be fine for most everything I can think of. The pin into the the third land would probably be a little much, but would be awesome. I know it slams compression down but I'm welding my combustion chambers a little and can mill accordingly. Also, in the hyper range over forged by adding a slight dome (22cc?) would get us up to 10:1. I don't know if it is cheaper for you guys to do hyper over forged, but I think just a performance piston would be better than stock cast. However, you got to make it worth your time cause: KB 2.2L pistons - $350ish Wiesco - $460 Ross - $550+ |

CP only manufactures forged 2618-t61 alloy pistons. The other manufactures do have lower prices than ours and is usually due to lower operating cost, materials and technology. I used to work at Ross pistons years ago so I remember most everything about working there. As far as pricing we will cost more and I will not attempt at competing with any of those prices but I will offer special pricing to willing forum members that will be worthwhile  .

One thing the oversizes of the Wiseco pistons tell me is that they started with a metric blank, most likely a 2.2/2.5 piston. Prices can be lower when you start with something off the shelf and don't offer the bore sizes that the customer really wants.  Mike, you're aboot a year too late for me. I got a set of Ross +.100" thick deck nitrous pistons last year. They charged $40 a slug to move the pin, so they were quite salty, especially since I bought 8.  I know a few people did get the rod/piston combo deal, so maybe there were some fence-sitters left that may come to you.

As far as a good business opportunity goes... my feeling is that the "long rod" set-up is pretty well covered by the recent Wiseco / K1 offering. There is still some opportunity with the 6.700 (225) rod length seeing that good forged pistons have not been available for the "stock" SL6 for some time now and there are some engine builders who are "locked-into" that design. (170 engines) The stock SL6 piston has a factory compression height of 1.760 but most of the aftermarket made them at 1.740 A new offering should have a 1.780 - 1.790 compression height. My bet is that these buyers will likey be on a tighter budget so keeping the .901 pressed pin and offering a "new technology" ( light weight but strong top deck) forged piston in the 3.400 to 3.500 size range, at a $50 to $75.00 per piston "price point" would likely get some interest. If I follow Doc correctly, (that's hard to do because as I'm not as smart as a fifth grader when it comes to the slant) with his idea I could buy a forged piston with slightly(?) more compression to use with my stock 225 rods. Better innards and less worry with spray? Sounds like a great street /strip situation. Or am I tone deaf? |

I am using stock 6.7 rods in my new shortblock. I don't really have anything against the 7.0 rods, I just am trying something different on a hunch.

i fall into that category doc, stock 225 rods and stock piston`s 0.080 over, if i could find good forged piston that i could work with it might be worth it. see we have no sonic testing no balancing here so i have to stick to stock as much as possible.
