Question here - are all slant six harmonic balancers interchangeable? - I am not talking about timing marks, but mechanically

Yes. The cast crank ones will work on a steel crank motor too. The main differences are the location of the timing marks and the number of spokes, but they will all interchange physically. :D

Answer I was hoping for just bought a balancer NOS mopar spoked hub for 29USD :D

I came across an NOS one on ebay before and thought of buying it just to stock up. But then I thought to myself, how much do I trust x decade year old rubber parts?

True. I bought a Power Bond as an upgrade. I plan on spinning my 198 about 6500 RPM so I thought it a wise investment.

At what stage did they start using spoked units? - we only ever had the solid hub type over here :?

I bought a couple of those NOS $29 units from Kiwijohn on ebay recently. They look in perfect shape and are a bit lighter than the forged crank units, likely due to cast crank application? Maybe just the hub is lighter.

So far, I have never had a balancer fail on me, except for 20 yrs ago beating on one with a hammer and cracking it through the keyway (my fault).

I need to remove one. How do they come off? There doesn't appear to be bolt on the thing!

The best way is to use a harmonic balancer puller, like this one sold at Sears for $20.

Most don't have a bolt in the crank from the factory. They are press on/interference fit. You need a puller like Reed showed.
