I have observed some folks mount their 4 bl. carburetors with the primaries facing to the front of the car, and others mounted 90 degs. clockwise to face the valve cover on a stirght six. After pondering these two arrangements, I'm thinking that primaries facing the valve cover perhaps would provide a more even air-fuel mixture to both ends of the engine. Is this a reasonable assumption? Q2 Does an Offinhouser intake have longer runners than a Clifford intake manifold, or are there other differences. If the Offy is longer would it provide more torque over the Clifford unit? |

The factory arrived at "sideways" mounting with the primaries facing the valve cover... The Offy 4 bbl intake does have slightly longer runners but more important, it has a smaller plenum area and individual holes below each carb "barrel" (venturi) opening which helps low speed and mid range operation. Thanks Doc. I'm in the process of adding a kick-down cable and swapping out a reverse valve body for an automatic shifting factory stile unit, and have recently rebuilt the carburetor. What the heck... This would be a good time to take a back azimuth, and turn to a bearing of 90 degrees east with my Holley. Chrysler had more money and slide rules to figure this one out than me. Also I think I'll perform the fuel mod while I'm at it. |

That's how I have my carb oriented on my Offy; the primaries to the driver's side. The plugs are pretty evenly colored. Better than my old unheated Clifford manifold set up the same way. My next engine is getting a Clifford manifold that's been divided and either an Edelbrock carb or the hybrid Holley with annular primary boosters. |

Hummm, So I should turn an angle of 270 degs... I'll have to ponder the throttle & Kick down cable configuration for that. Some where I have a photo of your home made bell crank device to reverse the pull direction of the throttle when the carb is mounted in the 270 deg position, but how would one connect the kick down cable? Just drape it over the valve cover, is it going to be long enough. I'm using Bouchillon Performance Engineering's kit with all the fixings for a Holley. These guys have a well thought out universal cable mounting bracket I think will work if the cables are long enough for a 270 deg mount |

Thats how I have my 600 Holley/Hyper pak set up.I am still in the tuning process but it seems ok at this time. |
