Motor Mounts are really sagging, the header pipe just clears the steering (might be hitting under certain circumstances)

So should I make the 2.25" header pipe with the old sagging mounts so that it clears the steering as is (worst case scenario), then install new motor mounts.

Or put the new motor mounts in, then make the 2.25" header pipe (with hopefully enough clearance if the mounts start sagging.)

Do motor mounts have an initial sag they obtain rather rapidly (say a month or so), then stay stable for years, then start to sag again?????

Stay stable, then sag and die?

or ?

Think I'd do the mounts first.

I think they're pretty linear in the rate at which they sag. At least the half-decent ones are. Which reminds me, it's time to place my quarterly call to Jim at ImpSvc and see how much longer before we can have our poly engine mounts.

I'd vote for new mounts, then new headpipe. The other way round offers too much chance for extra hassle and expense down the line.

Yup. Basics first. New mounts, then pipe. You don't want to rip apart a worn mount with the new power a bigger exhaust will bring.

Do the mounts first. It makes a big difference, then bend the pipe. I went through the same process. Had to get them rebend the pipe twice....

My mounts have not sagged at all in the past year or so. Still feel rock hard!
I am sure the rubber is a different compound today compared to 35 years ago.

So which is better:

New Indian rubber mount

or

44 year old American rubber mount

Hard to say....the original mount on my Satellite broke on my wife about 10 years ago, and the Indian one broke going up a hill in Seattle, the fan chewing up the upper radiator hose and dumping coolent all over the place a few years ago. So....

Mine are poly mounts and are harder than a rock!

Where did you get poly mounts?

410 Machine in Buckley found a set for me. They were doing the machining and balancing for me so I had them order new mounts and a new OEM 74 distributor . I think they may have come from a old Factory distributor in Renton or Tacoma, WA. There are a few (stock holds) old MOPAR warehouses here in the North West, like Bryant Motors. They have an unbelievable stash.....
