On another forum, someone mentioned a 340 double roller will work on a slant, is this true? I'm about to take another slant out of a 77 2dr Volare' and will be putting on a new timing chain, I'd rather have a double roller if it will work, all I've found for slants is stock replacements.

It would be driven in this form for at least 6 months. Or should I just wait until I have my other head done (.100 cut, engbldr valves, and ported) and dutra duals?

Thanks guys, I've read some posts here that don't paint the comp cams in a good light, but no real explanation why. If you have a better route within the same price range, or cheaper let me know. I'll want springs, keepers, chain, lifters and all.... again Thanks.

Do a search on the timing chain. I can't remember what engine has the same chain. You will just need a different sprocket. The sources of the sprocket should be in the same thread as the discussion.

For a cheap cam... have you thought about re-grinding your existing cam? It's quite a bit cheaper and you can cut the base circle to make up for any decking/shaving you do.

At this performance level the double roller timing chain is overkill. I would recommend the 254° Erson reverse dual pattern cam that Doug Dutra had Erson produce rather than the 252° Comp Cams camshaft. Erson hasn't been delivering cams with mis-drilled oil passages like Comp and the Erson RDP will perform better than the Comp camshaft. Erson can supply new lifters with the cam. Stock retainers with new stock replacement springs are fine. Stronger springs will only waste power and wear out parts faster. If you're cheap like me you can have your existing cam (or another good stock cam core) reground to nearly the same specs as the Erson RDP.

Big block (B/RB) engines use the same crank sprocket and timing chain as the slant, but the cam sprocket is different.

I ended up with a red box rollmaster double roller timing set I don't plan to use. I will sell it to you for $95 plus mailing if you want it, overkill or not. I see it is about $135 to order it now.

Josh- I see a mention of an rv10/244 and an rv15/244 cam, but i only see an rv10 erson cam on the group buy link, so I'm not sure what the profile on the intake lobe is for the 15, and I think the rv15/244 is the one I would want.
Also it looks like the exhaust see's more lift and duration, am I reading this right? I thought slants liked it the other way around. I'm gonna take your advice, I'm just trying to make sure I don't get the wrong thing.

My understanding is that Erson is discounting any slant cam we buy. You'll have to call and ask for the 254° reverse dual pattern grind.
