cast on block 2469430-1. The guy I bought it from said it was a 225 out of a 64 dart. Looks like it never had an oil change. Took head off and there is very little wear on the cylinder walls, can't hang a finger nail. Mic'ed the wall its 3.41. Looks like I can just throw some std rings back in. I plan to turbo this engine and use a 500 cfm holley 2bbl. This will be powering a 73 dart sport that will weight around 3k. Any help would be nice.

I was wondering what would happen if I installed my spare turbo from my 7.3 ford diesal?

This would be WAY too much turbo for this engine... your best bet would be to look at engines with similar displacements (turbo buicks come to mind) and then look at engines with similar RPM limits/powercurves and youll be in the right ballpark.

The ford diesel turbos are not that huge... but the exhaust housings are kinda big,
Maybe, if you have a wastegated one from a truck, not the unwastegated van one, it could be ok...

IIrc, they are reverse rotation gt38's, or something... might be ok for drag racing?

Thats what I was thinking , that my turbo doesnt look that large but the exhuast was huge. This is from a truck with waist gate attached. I was thinking that if I bore my /6 .060 over, put the largest valves in the head, port and polish, install a 2bbl 500cfm carb, and custom make my own exhust that with these combos would work with my diesal turbo, I would instal a 3" exhaust pipe out the back. My problem is that everyone has told me this wouldn't work, but I ask them if they seen one that doesn't they always say no.

that's probably because if everyone tells you something isnt going to work, and you decide to do it anyways to prove them wrong, and you FAIL, you generally dont go showing it off.

you sweep it under the rug as fast as you can---and go back and do it right.

but by all means, please be the first to either show us we are wrong, or what a failed turbo buildup looks like with pictures.

I agree, it sounds like a 3 freeze plug, small hub forged crank 225.
Be carefull... if your car is 1968 or newer with an automatic transmission, you will not be able to use that crank in front of your current transmission.

You can go ahead and rebuild that engine but swap the crank for a 68 - 76 forged unit or have the rear pilot hole machined-out to match you later transmission's torque converter.

Thanks for the info on the crank. This block does have 3 freeze plugs. Now I'm in search for a newer crank.

Instead of telling me why my diesel turbo will not work, can someone explain in laymens terms why it wouldn't. I just dont understand why if my 7.3 diesel is red lining at 3500 and my 225 at 5000 when I'm done with this build. I read that on some diesel turbo you can adjust when the turbo can spool up. To me with the large 3" exhuast, this thing should breath very well. If your telling me that my engine can not produce enough exhaust to turn the turbo, then I can understand that. Then my next question would be whats the best turbo, I'm looking for a turbo to kick in around 1800-2000 rpm.

The power stroke turbo is too big on the exhaust side, it will spool but not fully till about 3,500-4,000 rpm.my holset hx35 comes on full 20psi at 2,700 just stepping on it, and 2,300 when lugged. I think I can get a lower spool rpm if I tune it more

Yep, not enough exhaust at low RPM to spool it where you want it to spool. A Holset HX35, or the turbo off a Buick V6, Toyota Mk III Supra (Mk IVs have twin turbos that would be a bit of a fabrication and control challenge), or single turbo Nissan 300ZX would be appropriate if you are junkyard scavenging. For newer turbos, a Garrett GT32 might be about right.

Keep in mind with an automatic transmission, the stock torque converter stall speed is around 2,000 RPM, and that's going to go up if your turbo is making boost at that point.
