Post subject: | Tail Lights |
My tail lights stay on when i turn my dart off! it used to do this and all i would need to do was make sure my brake pedal was all the way up and it usually went off. now it stays on no matter what.....car off, headlight switch off etc.....i pop out the fuse to turn it off and put it back in when i drive it again......any idea what else to check for????? thanks in advance. |

The pedal has a little switch with a plastic plunger... if worn the plunger can slip off the pedal lever, or the switch can be mis adjusted. Either way it will act as if the brake pedal were down... Had this happen on my mom's '68, new brake switch took care of the problem. -D.Idiot |

The switch is held by a bracket that has a bolt and slot... you can move the switch by loosening the bolt a bit and sliding the switch into place where if the brake pedal has pressure on it, it will turn the lights on, and shut off when the pedal is in the 'up' position... have a friend or neighbor kid help... all he has to do is let you know when the brake lights turn on or off... The switch will be just under the dash touching the 'bar' that goes from the pivot to the pedal itself... once you locate it, check the face of the plunger by feel/close inspection if it's not flat, time for a replacement, if it's just missing the shaft because it's loose...readjust and try again. Good luck, -d.Idiot |

ok so i found the "button" that the brake lever hits to turn off the tail lights but it keeps missing the lever. it looks like it has been bent or something. can i simply try to bend it back or will that make it worse? |
