Post subject: | rear leafspring and bushings |
I have a 64 barracuda that I am working on. The car has had a lot of changes over the years and many parts have been changed out and replaced with diffrent years. I'm now trying to peice back the suspension and have found the rear end is a 8 1/4" out of a 73 to 76 I think? It has 10 bolts on the cover. When I took the rear end and spring out of the the car I noticed the bolt going through the largest bushing was to small for the bushing, but it fit well in the spring bracket that bolts to the car. I don't know if I should drill out the bracket and get a larger diameter bolt or if I can find a bushing that is the same outside diameter and has a smaller inside diameter? Did they change the diameter of the bolts betwwen 64 and 73? I am assuming the springs were also from the donnor car.5 Also, When I took apart the leaf springs there where some thin peice of metal that looked and felt like lead. The thin plates fell appart when removed? Can I get away without these pieces when I reasemble the leafsprings? thanks Joe |

The later springs did use a different eye bushing and larger bolts. The hangers should be drilled out and larger bolts used. I just don't remember if they are 1/2" or or larger, but I am pretty sure the older cars had 7/16" and the later 1/2". Be sure to use grade 8 bolts and locknuts. I think the plates you are talking about are zincs. You should put them back in. |

I'm not sure if the original anti-squeak zinc interliners are still available, but interliners of one kind or another (maybe plastic) certainly are, and should be installed. |
