Post subject:  Ignition Coil: Odd Attachment

Hi Gang,
I'm going to replace my ignition coil and also install an electronic ignition system this weekend on my 66 Dart (/6 225). I noticed a small canister attached to the positive lead of the ignition coil. The canister is about the size of an M80 firecracker and looks very much like a condenser. It is attached to the engine block via a metal flange. I don't see anything in the forums or any of the wiring diagrams about what this part might be. Any ideas? Can I remove it? Thanks. Tom

It is a capacitor intended to filter engine noise from your radio. Some cars came with them from the factory, and some were added as a fix by the dealer or radio repairman. It's not needed for the car to run, but you might need it for your radio.
