Thanks in advance for everyones advise before under simular title and any new advise. What pistons and part number do I need to use with a turbo. Also what cam is best for this set up. I will be using original 225 rods and crank. I will install the larger valves. How much should I take off of the deck and the head? Block is original with bore still 3.40. |

Shane, A lot of the answers you are looking for depend on your intended purpose and your goals for this motor/car (strip only, street-strip, daily driver...etc). Additionally, what is the budget you are working with? A lot of the cost depends on how handy your fabrication skills are. Let's say you have a 10-12psi boost goal then stock components (new replacements) are quite sturdy for the job at hand. I'd cut the head/block for at least a 8.5:1 comp ratio to help with the low speed non-boost situations and to make sure they are square. I'd definitely intercool it and add meth injection. The stock cam would be fine. If you wanted a new grind, go with something that has at least 114 lsa. The stock exhaust manifold will work as well. This should put an A-body easily into the 13's. Above is the cheapest route and actually very dependable. If you want to go faster things get a little more expensive really only as a matter of precaution. Custom rods, pistons, bigger turbo..ect. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of off the shelf speed parts for the slant six. Most items are cobbled together to make things "work". As an example, some have used the 198 rod and a turbo 2.2 piston with success. However, now with the new K1 7" rod it makes no sense to use a 198 rod unless you have them already. To purchase a 198 rod and then have it reconditioned it will cost as much as the new K1's (the 198 rod is 40 years old and heavier to boot). I believe the 2.2 forgings are starting to become scarce as well. For pistons, we have two manufactures who are willing to work with us. Brian @ Wiseco and Mike @ CP. I have Wiseco forgings @ $720 (piston, pin, rings, fitting & shipping). |

I totally agree with Shaker223 on all of his coments. Shane, if you have the budget and decide to build a higher boost slant6; please give me a call @ (949)567-9000. We can go over some details and I can give you a price quote ![]() Mike @CP pistons |

Mike, This is off topic, but while I have you here I figure I'll ask. Can CP make custom pistons in orders of two or is four the minimum? Thanks, Jake |

This will be a street/strip car, going into a 73 dart sport, i should be able to strip it to the wieght around 2800#. My fabrication skills are ok, I've got the tools and patience. Money is a differnt issue, Im trying to go with good used parts but I will spend the money when I have too. I was going with a 451 650hp route but with the cost of the engine build and all the mods for the car it would take $$$$ and 3 year project. I was told I can have all the fun and drive my car daily if I stay with the 6. I just want a 12 second car without nitrous and all the mods to the car. I am intrested in the 2.2 piston and the K1 rods. I thought that with 198 rod that my compression would be way too high. I was told by others that my compressor needs to be lower than 9:1. |

My car has run a best of 12.95@104mph @ 3365lbs-race weight. This was a 100% stock slant six (225) with 80k miles. The only mods to the engine were a deep pan and 340 valve springs. I used an 87 Buick GN turbo and 21 pounds of boost (intercooled and meth injected). In retrospect, I should have gone heavier on the springs. The intake was an offy 4 bbl and a home worked Holley 600 DP. See the below site for blow-thru carb mods. http://www.hangar18fabrication.com/blowthru.html If the motor is in the car and still running...keep it that way and do your fab & testing before building a "good" motor. Use head studs and you might have to o-ring the block depending on your boost levels http://www.youtube.com/user/Shaker223 |

We will even do as little as 1. Pistons orders less than 4 do cost a little more but we will still do them. Please let me know what you need. Mike @CP |

Flicker has a few pictures and so does the turbo forums but you have to register there. |
