So, its been wet and/or foggy as of late. The wipers haven't really had a test on my old '68 till recently.

Anyways, on to the problem. They work two or three times, then freeze in a random position on the up stroke. I usaly have to continue to the end of the stroke then they return. I don't know if the motors weak, or if somethings slipping

By "continue to the end of the stroke", what exatly do you mean? Are you physically moving the blades, or playing with the switch to make them go?

I just went a couple of rounds with my wipers ('64 Valiant, single speed). They had been operating intermittently, occasionally stopping in mid-stroke. Sometimes working the switch off and on would restart, sometimes not. When it quit the last time, it had voltage to the motor but no motion or noise.

The main fault seemed to be the well-worn motor commutator:

Cleaning the slots and lightly turning it restored operation. While messing around under the dash, I also installed the Schumacher wiper pivot seals and regreased the wiper linkages.

I haven't driven in a good rain since finishing, but it performs well under a water hose spray.

I did the same thing, used a little cheap $5 dremmel from Harbor Freight and cleaned off all the corrosion on the wiper motor. Then I got under the dash and greased the pivot points and worked them back and forth by hand to make sure there was no binding going on. Sometimes the linkages will get bent and it'll either not start at all or get caught up halfway through the stroke and quit.

It went from working 25% of the time to working 95% of the time now. I got really good at driving with water all over the window, so I can live with that :)

I had a similar problem a few years ago on my 68 Valiant. I think I cleaned the wiper motor's ground wire contacts (under one mounting stud on the fire wall) and the problem went away for me.
