Hi all,

I'm getting ready to re-install my intake/exhaust manifolds after a re-build. I'm also converting to a super six setup, so this is the first time I'm running these manifolds on my car. I'm doing a dry run first, to see how everything fits. I have the manifolds snugly bolted (not torqued) to the head, and have also snugged down the bolts that hold both manifolds together. The intake runners are all tight against the head, but three of the exhaust runners have gaps. There is about .015 on cylinders 2 and 3, and about .008 on cylinder 5. I have the GPRS (Aussie) manifold gaskets, including the one that goes between both manifolds. Are these gaskets thick enough to take care of these gaps, or do I need to have the manifolds machined to true them up? I'd appreciate some guidance, thanks very much.

Roger

Fab64,

With www.Remflex.com gasket that is nothing to worry about. On other brands of gaskets you may get a leak if the gap is on the top side. Doc suggested for me to make a sanding board. I have some 3/4" thick 16 ply Baltic birch plywood with some red 80 grit sanding belt screwed to it. I use it to dress the faces which makes a nice clean surface. I had the manifolds milled flat by a machinist but still dress the faces each time they come off. I have changed manifolds several times due to gasket leaks. I worked with Remflex on making their current SL6 gasket just to take care of this type of problem.

That small amount of warp also won't be a problem with the GPRS gasket you already have, which like the Remflex is specifically designed to take up space created by minor manifold warp like yours. Go ahead and bolt it together.
