Had a Trans given to me the other day. Told it had been on a 360. It is a non lockup small trans. I don't want to open it up at this time. Is there any way to tell if it is a 999 trans without taking it apart? Also did all 999 transmissions have the low gear set? Charlie flturbo6@aol.com |

There is a rectangular pad on the right side of the bell housing just ahead of where the dipstick tube fits into it. This will be stamped with a partial VIN code. That number will tell us what model and year it came out of. Just looked in a 1980 serive manual and it seems to indicate that 360s in that year did not have the wide ratio gear set. Also that manual still refers to the 904 (slant six) and 904-LA (small block V8) versions of the transmission. No reference to 998 or 999. Somewhere I may have some later car service manuals still packed in a box with more information. cfield@ll.net |
