I was reading somewhere that if you offset grind the crank you pick up more cubic inches but that you can't grind the crank again. First off, what is involved in offset grinding. Second, how does it get you more cubic inches. snarl@net-change.com |

Offset grinding involves the connecting rod journals. The sizes of connecting rod bearings will limit the amount you can undersize the journals. Normally when you grind a crank, you remove the same amount all around. Just envision a smaller circle inside a bigger circle. Center of these circles are the same. When you offset grind, you take more off of one size than on the other. For example. Assuming you use 0.030 undersize bearings and a really nice crank to start with, grind 0.005 off one side and 0.025 off the other side. This can effectively move the piston away from the centerline of the main journals, increasing the stroke of the crankshaft. More stroke = more displacement. Clear as mud? Hope this helps.
