I noticed the polishing on my cover weas not as good as the last one I bought a few years ago either. I'm sure the vloume discount had an effect. It still looks good anyway. |

Sand casting is a combination of process and "art", seeing that a new sand mold is hand made for each part and then distroyed to remove the raw casting. All the shake-out, de-gating and finish work is also done by hand so needless to say, there can be some variations, part to part and also lot to lot. All the defects you discribed can be controled but it takes more time and effort at the foundry. When I have castings made, I have to watch the foundry and my job closely... basically, be "in their face" in order to to get top quality castings. DD |
