Check out the plate that the compressor is mounted on. That's a Charlie Schmid original piece and he has more for sale if your interested. It's great for converting early A bodies for air and has no clearance issues with Offy, Clifford or Super 6 intakes or stock, Dutra or header exhausts.. Here's what Charlie did, and it works like a charm! I actually got to use the air a little yesterday when it was a little warm. (Gotta love Florida!) I would also like to point out that this car was originally heater delete, so Charlie deserves a medal for ingeniously working both the A/C and heater/defroster system into this car.

Slick! Is that a full custom bolt-on bracket, or is it a custom adaptor to go from a York/Tecumseh compressor mount to a Sanden SD? Looks like it uses the rearmost (closest to the block) belt drive line, which I like. Will it clear a Super Six air cleaner to the rear? (And of course now I'm wondering about clearance with some of those interesting manifolds 68Barracuda's working on)

That bracket is a hand fabbed one. I sent it out to a fab shop, to copy, and they did a real nice job, but I don't have pricing, yet. Needs a couple of minor tweeks. It does use the rear most drive pulley. The main problem, with that is to locate stock drive pulleys (if anyone has any to sell contact me). The production bracket will have the compressor, located 1 inch further away from the manifolds. Don't know about fit, with anything other then the manifolds listed (no samples). I am pretty sure it will clear the super six air cleaner (did not have a sample, and had to use measurements).

What Chuck didn't mention, was this was a heater delete car. The hardest part was making up a close to stock heater/defroster system.

Yeah, sorry I forgot to mention that, Charlie. You did a fantastic job making it look very much like a factory install.

Lemme know when you have brackets available. I'm in!

Very nice work Charlie, and congrats to Chuck!

I will likely get a bracket. What was the cost of the whole system, if you/Charlie don't mind? Feel free to PM me...

Might go good in my new '90 "Slantkota" PU I'm getting from Meril. Wonder if it would sneak around the turbo setup I'm working on for the '68 Dart?

Nicely done indeed! Lou, have you posted about this Slantkota project? I would be interested!

Meril Bruner built this blue 1990 Slant Dakota about 4 yrs ago and it's been at several Slant races so far.

I am just buying it (uncharacteristically for me) and will use it to pull a racecar to events so if there's another driver there interested they can drive the Dak in the race.

Will post some pics when I get it, or you can see it in the latest newsletters.

How does the 79 and newer A/C brackets work with headers and Offy's? My old V2 I couldn't use one bracket that went down to the block. I used the A/C anyway and the main bracket broke after a few years. It ate a few belts as it jumped at idle too.

All the sale threads Charlie had on this seem to be gone, is he no longer selling them?

:?:

Ah, just answered my own question, found a thread at FABO where he sold the last and isn't making any more.

Yep, sorry, all gone except for one I am putting on my street driver 64 Valiant. The company that was making them for me raised their pricing to the point where I just couldn't invest that amount of money, to sit on the shelf for a couple of years. If anyone else wants to do it, I will be glad to give the info to them. Will require around a $2,000 investment.
