My 67 Dart has the factory manual steering, which is fine for me,but my wife has some trouble with it at low speed. So I am looking into swapping it out.I want to know if I have to trade parts with another A body or could I use parts from another mopar? There is a 86 or 87 318 RWD 5th Ave at my local junk yard that has power steering,I think the steering box will work but will the other stuff work? I know I will need to buy slant six specific brackets and pump, but what about the steering shaft from the 5th ave? My parts list for this swap should be: Steering box Brackets and pump steering shaft PWR steering fluid Anything else that I am missing? Any links tips or info will be much appreciated! If you have done this swap let me know how it went! |

Without changing your K-member, idler arm, pitman arm and center link you cannot use a '73 or later power steering box. You need the '72 and earlier small sector power steering box and a shorter steering shaft ('67-'70 A-body if memory serves) for the column at a minimum. I have a '67 PS A-body steering shaft in my junk pile if you need one. You omitted the hydraulic hoses from your list. |

Damn I knew I was missing something! All of my other a bodys have been 73-76(besides my 70 which I never had to modify) I always forget those little details.Thank you for the info.PM me with a price on the steering shaft. All these 67 Specific details are adding up quick...KH disc brakes, biscuit motor mounts, small pilot bearing, small sector steering, single field alt with non electric volt.reg, points, non hardened valve seats, cylinder heads with the 'dead spot'....I am thinking about just finding a 73-76 A body parts car to update my 67! |

If you come to a race at Medford you can have the steering shaft for free. My '67 Valiant came with the later style cylinder head. I'd check the casting number of yours. I updated the brakes on my Valiant with those from a '75 Duster. I kept the K-member and steering linkage from the Duster in the event I want to get rid of my '67-only idler arm and use the later motor mounts and sway bar. I converted to electronic ignition using HEI electronics. The wiring is simplified compared to the Chrysler EI. |
