i got two questions first what kind of plug wires should i use with my slant if im going for a 45,000+ coil and how much ohms do i need and what size wire this is nothing i have realy messed with on my cars so i dont know what to do also my dad has a question: where is the slant in the slant six? I got my block laying in the shop floor and it looks like any other stright six, is it on the motor mounts or what? thanks josh |

It's called a "Slant 6" because it's slanted 30 degrees to the passenger side: |

Yes, a bare block looks just like any other inline six and with the exception of the fuel pump mounting pad and oil pan... the block could be installed "straight-up" and nobody would know it was designed to be slanted 30 degrees. Where the real difference is... is in the cylinder head. The ports have an extra 30 degree curve to the manifold's mounting surface. DD |

I like moroso blue max on the s/6.nice long spark plug boots make them easy to remove.you will have to cut and crimp on the dist boots because their universal fit. |

I gotta call bull S#!T on that one; your teacher was wrong there. if it changed how well it ran, just by changing the coil, your buddy either had a defective coil, or possibly something hooked up wrong and was "corrected" in unhooking and re hooking the replacement coil. I don't care how big your coil is; it never puts out max rated output, unless called for! Have you guys been thru a unit on the engine scope yet? If you ever get to see a firing pattern, you will see that an ignition sys in good shape will actually only put out ~5-6KV NOT 45KV. The HEI that has been stock on gajillions of GM products since about 1975 is rated @ like 50KV; I think that some systems were rated @ 80KV; but they did not actually put out any where near that unless the plugs were about burned out. That was why they increased the plug gap from 0.035 to 0.045, and in some cases as much as 0.080" because their ign, systems had the CAPABILITY to put out that much juice, but again, even at 0.080" gap they never had a need to PRODUCE that amount of energy. It's like water, path of least resistance. Also like an alternator; 125 amp units are common these days; but if there is only 35 amps being drawn, the alternator will only put out, 35 amps. If it put out 125 amps (rated capacity) without having the actual need, something will fry. |

A stock coil is fine for stock engines.I don,t like those accel coils myself,I think they draw too much current, and are "tuned" for racing engines that operate at a higher rpms all the time. when you put them on stock engines,at low speeds they don,t work efficiently and draw even more current. This can overheat stock ignitions, and I also believe 70s-80s-mopar ign. boxes are marginal with stock coils.I think you are better off starting with better spiral wound wires before you improve the rest of the system. |

I was wondering about Firecore wires. They guy makes them for most Mopars. If we could get a slant set built and did a group buy. |

MSD 3 coil is as serious as you need to get for a street car. |

The story from Chrysler is that the slant six was "slanted" to allow for a lower hood-line in their new (for 1960) Valiant lineup.- Mac |
