Post subject: | Cam suggestion for my slant powerwagon truck |
Dear all, this may I am planning to buy a cam for my 1975 Dodge Power Wagon truck. I had port&polished and shaved 0.04 mm off the head. The engine runs very good with the stock cam, no sign of pinging. And as the last modif I am planning to get a Cam. Does anyone has any suggestions? Brand?, duration?, should I buy the timing chain and pulley?. I think that Erson cam 254 or 270 is suitable for my application since my truck is 4WD and low to mid range power is important. Is there other brands? Thanks |

Erson Cams is a good choice. We have a group buy with them and you can still get in buy calling them and asking. As for choice they have an RV cam that is set up for torque that may be a good choice. Or PM Lou (Dart 270) and ask for a custom recommendation from Erson. My02. Frank |

I have the RV15M with Doc's RDP grind. See the Erson thread for more information, and talk to Doug about it. Mine got installed advanced about four degrees from spec intitially, and the torque off idle was absolutely astounding. It would spin to 4100 rpm, then shut off abrubtly. Now that it's been retarded to specification, I can spin up 5000 rpm, which is a bit further than your going to want. For rock hopping and lugging I'd think that cam would be a great choice. with two or three degrees of advance more than the cam card. Definitely install a new timing set. Your in there anyway! If you decide to go with a roller chain rather than a quiet set, search this site for oiling modifications. CJ |

The 254 grind is good for torque, not sure how it compares to Doc's RDP cam though. Ask him which cam might pull harder below 3,000 rpm. |
