How do you install a center console and shifter (automatic) into a car that has never had one? |

The best way is to find a donor car, so you can get all the parts you need. The most difficult part of the swap is removing and reinstalling the welded brackets the console attaches to. I make a template from cardboard to correctly locate the brackets, then I chisel them off the donor and re-attach to the new car with pop rivets. The shifter linkage swivel goes through the floor and dimples on the side of the hump show the location to drill for the attaching screws. You'll need a hole saw for that operation also. There is only one electrical wire, and it's a yellow or orange one from a dash light circuit. Once you have the parts in hand, you'll see that it's not a difficult job. I've done a couple of B-bodies and two A-bodies. One A-body donor was a '70 Duster and I put it in a '76 Dart. The other one did not have the brackets, so I had to fabricate my own. That was a bit more of a challenge, but it wasn't brain surgery. I also built a console for my '73 D100. I used a shifter from a mid-80's FWD Mopar, built my own linkage, and used a generic cable. For this setup, I also had to fabricate a bracket to mount the cable at the transmission. |

Well, the thing is, im buying this setup from someone, and wether or not it comes with the welded brackets or not I do not know. I will have to post pics when I get it.

To the best of my recollection, it appears you have all the parts except for the console housing and top plate. The C-shaped bracket below the shifter knob attaches the front of the console to the hump. The big bracket on the lower right, mounts the rear of the console. The slotted holes allow some lateral adjustment when locating the console housing. When you get the console itself, it will be easy to see how everything fits together. |

I am about to put the console in, but I am missing the piece that connects the lower rod to the trans, The FSM calls it an adjustable swivel. Does anyone know where I could get one of these, or how to make somthing up? |
