Hello all,

I'm interested in using a pressure box instead of a blow/draw-through for my aspiring turbo setup. I can't seem to find any aftermarket kits, any information on how to set one up, or any useful information in general..

So far all i can really fathom is that i could TIG weld up a 1/4" aluminum box with a blow off valve and fuel line provision, use boost instead of vaccum to open the high-speed meter circuit (not really sure how this would work). oversizing the jets for the enrichment circuit in my carb would be an obvious modification, but tuning would be a rough process.

Is this a realistic alternative or is this best left to ww2 fighter planes...

I have looked at this idea along with a preasure blow thru setup. First thing carburators. I would only think a mechanical primary and secondary carb would work. I would use a Holley double pumper mechanical carb. Blow thru carbs with out a housing ie box would have to be modified to work or purchase one for that purpose. If you put a regurlar holley carb in a presurised box it should not matter if the box works right. Preasure would be the same on the outside of the carb and inside the carb. Costs, regular holley carb plus the cost of the box and linkage fuel lines verses, a preasureized built carb. If I go this route I am going to buy a blow thru carb for several reasons. eaiser to set up , less leakage, ease of tuning, A lot would depend on how much of the work you could build ie carb box and ect. One note and and people have told me the Studebaker Avanti R4 engine came with a carb in the box for the paxton supercharger engine. Problem is where are you going to find one.
Thanks Ron Parker :D

I had one that I put on a 170ci Ford Falcon years ago. Box seemed quite simple. The base was raised to the point that the throttle shaft was operated by an extention that was in the base plate, and the idle air bleeds were operated by a spring loaded shaft with an end like some of the flexable distributer point adjuster tools for GM distributer w /points.
PM me for more detailed info.

I did find some stuff on pressure boxes and the resulting carburetor modifications and I've come to the conclusion it would just make sense for me to stick to familiar territory and building a batch fired Megasquirt system.. This would simplify tuning the fuel delivery under boost.

Thanks for the information though :)
