hi sages - been a while since i replaced a water pump on an sl6. yesterday i noticed coolant leaking out of the weep hole on the pump on my my 80 volare. dropped about a pint on the driveway. looks like curtains for this pump. think its the original from 80 since it and its bolt heads still have the blue engine paint on it. low 69 k miles. 2 Q- used to get pep boys rebuilts with life time warranties. never had a problem. whats your opinion on brand? also- procedure still the same - glue new gasket to pump with permatex goo and slap on? thanks tons bob f |

Bob, Personally I would not go with Pep Boys or a rebuilt. A new pump at NAPA cost a little more but was good for my piece of mind. An opinion. Joe |

No real need for goop unless you have an especially corroded mounting surface or pump. I have had good luck with the NEW pumps from Advanced Auto. Used them on my wife's jeep and a 318 and a lastly my last slant. The last two I purchased were even made in the USA! Good luck. sb |

Mine was a new unit from NAPA as well. Can't remember the actual brand, but IIRC it was NOT a chinese-made pump. I took a gasket scraper, (and a couple hours) to the mating surface on the block and it doesn't leak a bit with the gaskets put on dry. Just got to make sure the surface is clean and smooth. |

Are most of the new pumps (have not bought one yet) cast or Aluminum? I have an Aluminum one on a junk yard engine and thought about polishing for a little more bling. Thanks, Wayne. |
