Hello all: I have run into a problem in the rebuild of the 904 tranny. On the front clutch assembly my pressure plate is shattered into about 5 pieces. It was held in place with the snap ring and the pressure of the clutch discs but I really don't want to reinstall something like that in the rebuilt transmission. The rebuild kit I have does not include a replacement pressure plate. Does anyone know where I can get one of these things? Alternativly, I thought of taking the three old clutch plates (I'm replacing them with new ones from the kit) and putting them together as a pressure plate. They are about the same thickness as the broken pressure plate and they seem like they would serve the same function. Any thoughts on that idea?? I had the same problem with the front clutch plate in my 904, only it was broken into about 10 pieces and the snap ring was broken in 2 pieces. I went to the transmission shop where I got my rebuild kit from and he sold me a used plate and snap ring for $5. They get used transmissions from salvage yards and disassemble them to use for parts. Or you can check your local salvage yards for a parts transmission. Good luck. cfield@ll.net |
