What are the best shocks to get? I have air shocks in the rear, but its such a pain to keep adjusting them, and the shocks in the front are new. The whole suspention just seems to be too soft, I want somthing a little firmer. When ever someone rides in the passanger side, the car seems to tilt that way, and then scrape on the tires when I turn. |

On the rear you really need a new set of springs. Air shocks will eventually break the top mounts out, even at lower air pressure settings. On the front you may be able to adjust the torsion bars, but if someone sitting in the car makes that much difference you may have other issues going on. Springs control the ride height of the car, not the shocks. Air shocks are a band-aid that cover up worn out springs. |

If you stay with moderate rate springs the Edelbrock shocks work very well. The ride and handling had been reported to both improve. Lower cost than the Edelbrocks and of lower handling gain over say Monroe Gas-Matics are the KYB Gas-a-Just. If you run really high rate springs, say 1.04" torsion bars then you need a better shock like the QA1 Stocker Star adjustables. I have 1.04" torsion bars and QA1 shocks on my '67 Valiant. A couple of people on the forum have ridden in the car and can attest to the ride and handling. |

ESPO is good, although you'll have to call them, as they don't list A-Body leafs on their website. I got leafs from JC Whitney, on a free shipping deal, and have been very happy with them. I got the high lift, which worked great, although I think I'm going to flip my front spring mounts over to lower the body just a bit. If I had to do it over again I would not go with the KYBs. Very solid handling, but very jarring ride quality, even before I replaced my leaf springs. - Mac |

Joshies Valiant handles very well indeed. Even with 3 people in the car! The KYBs do have that rough ride to them, but if firm/tight is what you want, then they should work for you. The Eddys give a wonderful ride, but at the expense of a few more $$$. I have air shocks on the back of my '74 Swinger that need to go bye bye when I get some new springs for it. The monroe shocks give a pretty decent ride as well, my roommates '73 Duster has them on the front, and the car handles/rides well, not bouncy, not tooth jarring. I just gave a set of KYBs to MiDi so he slapped them on his '64 GT, and that thing handles well, with the exception of body sway on tight corners. ~THOR~ |
