If the transmission lost any clutches the converter will need flushed at least.

hey guys. i have been looking for someone who lists a torque converter for my 1963 valiant. its a slant six/904. i rebuilt the tranny and i dont know what condition my torque converter is in. is there a way i can check it. do these things wear out? i went to a transmission shop before school yesterday, but after 5 minutes of standing there and no one saying a word to me. i said screw 'em and left. thanks for any help. -aaron- |

Do a Google search for Edge converters. They are in Cali and can probably rebuild yours or sell you a new one. |

Just check clearances on the snout and drain and refill put back in and run it. Unless you have a leak from a bad seal or some physical damage I wouldnt worry. Frank |

thanks guys. well heres a little history. i bought the car not running. three pistons were cracked. it looked like that car got ran with no oil. my friend helped me rebuild the tranny and he said everything looked very good. nothing looked overheated and it didnt look like it had many miles on it since the last rebuild. i have all the receipts from the car. i have on from 1976 that says the tranny was rebuilt and the torque converter was replaced. the mileage on the car at the time was 49,180. now its around 90 thousand i believe and the car was last registered in 1988. i dont know much about torque converters (still learning) i just dont want to have to pull anything apart once i put the motor and tranny back in. |

I think you should be fine. So long as it hasn't had a bad trans behind it (sounds like yours is A-OK) then stuff 'er in there and get that thing moving! ~THOR~ |
