I just picked up my new dart this weekend. It is a slightly warmed /6 with .30 over, upgraded cam (purple sticK) don't know which one, 500 cfm carter 4bbl on an aluminum offy intake and 2, 3 into 1 clifford headers.

One side of the dual exhaust needs to be replaced right now. The other side could probably wait awhile but will need to be done eventually. I'd like to wait if I can to do the other side for $'s sake.

The pipe that attaches to the header had a 2.5 inch ID, and then very quickly necks down to a pipe which has a 2 inch OD (little bigger than 1.75 ID) for the rest of the exhaust system.

Do you all think that a 2" OD pipe is enough for my dual exhaust system. I've heard many members use 2.25" for single exhaust, but what about duals. If I replace one side with what was originally there, will I wish I went bigger later on?

If so, I'll just wait a while longer, save some $'s, and do both sides now. But if not I'll be driving a lot quicker :D

Thanks for any opinions.

Chris E.

I run dutra duals with both sides having 2" pipes...and that's about the limit for that 'fat' engine bay and having clutch linkage in the down turn area. Early A-bodies I know have very limited room to work with. I don't think there are any gains to be had above dual 2", I probably could have gotten away with dual 1 7/8" and still been fine. The exhaust will be quieter if you run a smaller pipe after the muffler.

Dual 2" is a very fine choice.

I would definitely not go bigger than dual 2", even with a more built engine. 2 X 2" into a Y and single 2.5" would be my first choice for that engine.

Sounds best to replace your 2" on one side!

Great! Looking forward to seeing you and the car out at Hagerstown.

Sam Powell and Will Burns both said they'll be there in their rides, in case I forgot to mention that.
