Post subject:  Another oil pump gear failure

Took a customer motor apart yesterday that had "issues". Among other things I found a badly worn oil pump gear. It was sharp enough to cut you, but had not completely failed. Cam was a Comp Extreme that I had used without problems in my motor for quite a while. Cam appears undamaged. Motor had less than 200 miles on it.

Pump was an MP high pressure/volume pump that I had advised the customer against using, but he insisted.

Other issues are under investigation, but seem to be fitting a pattern of motor failures in the last year by many different builders.

Motor will go back together with my personal favorite, the Vatozone 5 bolt pump.

Thanks for the heads up, I haven't had problems with the Comp Cam oil gear yet on either of my rigs...but I also use the 'regular' Melling Oil pump.

Thanks for the heads up.
