I have a 64 Valiant 225 3speed manual with A/C. My new head is just about done at the machine shop. Its been heavily ported, 1.70intake 1.44exhaust valves, combustion chambers opened around the valves, milled to give a compression ratio of 9.5 to 1, and lots of different coatings This thing will flow alot more air. The bottom end is stock bore. It will be receiving a offy 4bbl and holley 8007 390cfm carb. Stock exhaust manifold to 2.25 tubing back. I am considering the erson 280 cam. I would like a cam that makes some good torque but I need to keep my A/C living in AZ. Will the 280 be a good choice?

Not sure about cam - but with the time and $ you have spent on the head go ahead and get some Dutra exhaust and let her breathe!!

With that much head work,Dutra Duels would be better than that cam,In my opinion you will be over cammed and carburated for stock ex manifold,Daily driver or some race track time??I have read the 270 erson with head work, bigger valves,Dutra Duels,350 2 barrel,is a very good combo.

I run that cam in a very similar setup to yours.

I use a Super 6 BBD and stock ex manifold and 2.25 pipe.

I also use a 5 speed and 3.55 gears.

The cam is great at an idle...has tons of torque.

As long as you have 9.5 CR for sure and at least 3.23 gears you will be fine.....

if its a street driven car thats way to big duration wise becouse all that duration will give you that "thump" that people wantbut your mpgs will drop alot i think the next size down the 270 or even the 254 would be good im gonna use the 254 with my build which is a high lift low duration cam basicly a towing cam for more torqe and mpgs and also the cam dont make power till 3 grand so i wouldnt personaly

DONT FORGET when it comes to cams its all what you want to use the car for !!

also when slant get to about 6000 the internals start giving troubles that could lead to like a hole in the block and other stuph

My cam is 280 intake 270 exhaust.

With the right compression ratio and gears/convertor you will be fine....

A 254 is a waste of money.

This car will be a street strip car mainly strip and back and fourth to work every once in awhile. Not really worried about mpg and for now I will be using a 3speed and the old 7 1/4 2.76 gears. I know the cam is the right choice for the setup for now. The trans and rear will be changed in the next year but we are talking the motor for now. Will the cam work well with the head and 4bbl and still be able to use the a/c when needed along with gobes of torque and power? Thanks for all the help.

That is not a big cam in my book. That should work perfectly with 9.5:1 comp, assuming your measurements are right and that's your actual comp ratio.

Idle will be smooth and it'll make great power. I wouldn't even think of going with a smaller cam than that in my street car, with that comp and headwork.

That said, I also wouldn't run a stock converter with that engine setup. You will want a 2500-3000 stall converter for that car.

Lou

I remember that someone put together a PDF file of a lot of cams and there characteristics. Can this chart be produced again?
