Post subject:  Power steering pump part two

I recently picked up a (used) replacement power steering pump for my '70 Dart. It's a Federal replacing the same. The problem is the pulley on the replacement is too small (5½" ± on the replacement, closer to 6¾" on the one in place). I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the pulley off the new one. Anyone got any experience here? Can I simply put it in as is with a shorter belt? I know it would spin faster, but does that matter? Is the pulley a press fit? The end of the shaft appears to take a ½" hex, but I get zilch when I try to spin the pulley relative to it.

Thanks in advance,

Nat

The pulley is a press fit. I don't know about your area, but in the states, many parts stores have a tool loaner program. If you have one, you should be able to get a PS pulley remover/installer tool. Do not hammer on the shaft, you will destroy the pump.
