Soon the head will be carted off to the machine shop to cut in new over sized valves (1.70", 1.44") from stock. Do I need to install new hardened seats, or is there enough depth of hardness to just enlarge the stock opening?

+2. Hard seats in the exhaust locations.

The hardening in the stock exhaust valve seats is often quite shallow. A stock valve job or two and the hardening is usually gone. Hard exhaust seat inserts are the way to go.
