Hello Folks,

Doc and I are going to each get a set of the K1 con rods narrowed for use on a cast crank. Tom at K1 has agreed to make this modification, and still needs to give us a quote.

If anyone else is interested in getting a set made like this, please respond to this thread or PM me soon.

The additional cost will be something like $50-100/set ($510-560 total new set cost), but will be cheaper if we can get more than 2 sets into the deal.

Thanks very much,

Lou

About the time I get serious about setting up the forged crank set I have...but wanting the quick rev cast crank unit in a long rod....

Let me know I'd be interested in that kind of build.... 8)

Thanks,

Hey DI,

Are you saying you are interested in a set? Or modifying your set? Or, just interested in the buildup process? Just trying to clarify.

Lou

I'd be in for a set, if Tom's going to make a run.

Hey buddy, you're the one with the modded SRT-4 and euro cars...

None of my vehicles are worth more than about $4k to anyone except me. :?

I'll gladly give you $4K for any one of your cars! :D

My SRT-4 isn't modded... Just struts, sways and an air filter. When I get back I'll trade you straight up for any one of your cars. The SRT-4 should be worth about $4K by then.

No more Euro cars here.

Just keep saving,... just keep saving...

Lou, I was thinking of saving up for a regular set - so I agree with Rob! :D Using these rods with the wiseco pistons what should static compression be? In my 73 engine the slugs are .176 down in the hole. Heads have 57 cc chambers. Have not installed oversized valves yet. Unshrouding and deburring or polishing of the chambers should open them up a little more. Block and head have not been milled. Block is at standard bore but will have to be overbored. If I can use the k1/wiseco combo and sit at 10 : 1 or just under that sounds good. Thanks for your advice.

OK, Rob, you got me. I'll sell you my 1992 B350 for $4k!

Wvenable,

Here's my math on the K1/Wiseco's in your engine:

58 cc head
Currently pistons 0.176" down = 10.715" from crank centerline to deck
0.033" Felpro gasket
7.005" rod
1.625" piston compression ht
stroke/2 = 2.0625"
Approx 6 cc valve relief (guess)
This puts the pistons 0.022" in the hole.

From this I calculate 9.7:1 comp ratio. With a thicker gasket (0.046") I get 9.45:1.

Lou

I just bought a set of the rods. It will take some time to recharge the wallet. When is this going to take place(target).

Doh! Um,... yeah,... I was kinda sorta thinkin' more along the lines of one of the Darts or Valiant. :D

Hey Wvenable,

I'm leanin' towards the K1 rods at this point, so if you still want those 198 rods...

I'd like to get Tom working on these narrowed K1 rods in the next month or so. So far we have 3 people in. You can always narrow the set you already bought.

I recently narrowed a set of factory 198 rods and guess what, it is a lot of "fussy" work.

After seeing a set of the "wide" K1 rods... this is a "no brainer"... a narrow set of the K1 rods is well worth the $500.00 or so asking price.
Heck, if I count all the time I have in the narrow factory 198 rods I just made, those rods cost me twice that amount. (oh... I forgot, my time is worth $0.00 so the ones I made were almost free!   )

The good news... I have my set of narrowed 198 factory rods down to 550 grams each.

Rob, thanks for thinking of me. If you need the $ right away go ahead and sell em. I just bought a blue printed oil pump from Doc so I have to pace myself. If you can hang for a while I wouldn't mind having them in my arsenal. Do what is best for you.

Lou, thank you so much for the math. With a little clean up on the head and deck 9.8 to 1 or 10 to 1. should be easy and still streetable for a weekend warrior. End of May these are in my sight! Thanks again!
