Post subject:  Any Tips on replacing Engine Mount Bushings?

I need to replace both engine mounts. Looks like the left is available but not the right. The bushing insert is available for the right.
How hard is it to get the bushing out of the mount? Is this something that you need a press/machine shop to do or is there a way that a backyard mechanic can do it without hurting himself too badly?

This is an 80 volare with spool type mounts.

Thanks,
Scott

It's quicker just to buy the mount complete. That is what I did.

Thanks,
I have only been able to locate the inserts at my local parts stores. I may be able to get a left side mount but the right side does not seem to be available.

Try www.rockauto.com . They have tons of stuff and pricing is pretty good. :D

Hmmmmm. Right not available either. Left is $8, insert for the right is $4.

Wait a minute! Do you shop alot at your local NAPA? Mine does a bang up job of finding me parts. Get to know a couple of folks there that will help you in this area. FIRST, gather any and all info on what your looking for. Study NAPAs site, gather part #'s, etc. etc. and go talk to them. The more info you have when you walk in the door will help make your life easier for them and they will be more willing to help you find what you need.
i.e.- if you want to whole mount, gather that info and see if maybe a mount from say a 69 DART w/slant 6 or whatever will work for ya. Walking in armed with tons of info and intel will work wonders. Hope this helps?

Scott, FYI: Napa in South Plainfield is the best one around. The regional warehouse is in a building attached to the store (so even if they have to 'order from the warehouse,' that entails a guy walking next door and, worst case, a 10 minute wait.)

It's not as close for you as North Brunswick, I'm guessing, but probably well worth what is likely an extra 30 minutes on the round trip (v.s. waiting for the truck to make a round and making a second trip to pick up your parts).

Thank you Ed it is probably worth the trip to check them out. My son goes to HP High School so i am up there all the time anyway.

I still need to know how the mount comes apart if I do find the complete unit it is the difference between spending $50 or $8.

Thanks,
Scott
