The 65 barracuda I am restoring has a problem with the idle. I've replaced the plugs, wires, rotor button, and distributor cap. The carb has been rebuilt. It has good excelleration smokes just a little when you get on it. Any ideas would be appreciated

Welcome on the board. Red text is clickable (links). As soon as you can, get the books for your car. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. The engine requires periodic valve adjustment. The timing mark on the crank pulley can shift when the vibration damper's rubber bond is lost, causing inaccurate ignition timing. Once you're sure everything's tuned and adjusted well and the consumable parts (plugs, wires, etc.), then look for faults such as vacuum leaks, carburetor problems (even after a bench rebuild, and especially if it's a parts store "remanufactured" carburetor), and the other factors that'll make any engine run poorly. Another vote for doing a valve lash adjustment.
Tight lash, especially on the exhaust valves, will make the engine idle poorly.

Bout time you came over here. Dont forget that the slant 6 has 123 one way and 456 the other as far as intake and exhaust valves.

If you do a complete tune up and valve adjustment, and the problem is still there, you could have a burnt valve or worn rings. Do a compression test as part of your tune up.
