my 76 swinger runs like a dream, or should i say, jogs.

want to give it some extra horses.

i'm only starting to get into working on cars and am still a novice and learning valuable information every day.

what i think would be best for me to do is to get rid of this single barrel carb and replace with a 2 barrel for extra power, but the manifold only fits one carb.

I've been unable to find a lightweight manifold, or any manifold rather, to fit a 225 slant 6 '76 swinger, that will allow a 2 barrel carb.

is this even possible????

Maybe i'm going about this wrong?

what is the best way to get more power???

thanks!!!!

Welcome on the board! You're in the right place. The very first thing to do is order the three books described in this thread. They will get you quickly up to speed on how your car works and how to work on it effectively.

The second thing to do is to figure out and write down exactly what you want your car to do that it doesn't presently do. Not in terms of which parts are under the hood, but in terms of performance, driveability, economy, steering, stopping, etc. Then post your goals here and you'll get good quality advice steering you towards the most effective and cost-effective mods to make, and in what order.

With a nice low-miles car like that, everything's likely in good mechanical condition. But even in 100% stock configuration, the difference in performance between a well-tuned car and a poorly-tuned one is extremely large. It can be tough to find a professional mechanic these days who is familiar enough with the older cars to do better than getting it in the general ballpark. And your car requires periodic valve adjustment.

One quick and easy thing to check: Find the one and only vacuum hose that connects to the ignition distributor. Follow it up the side of the engine and see where it goes. If it goes to a widget on the side of the air cleaner housing, and then from that widget to the carburetor, you will get a consequence-free large improvement in the car's acceleration and economy if you bypass the widget (which is called an OSAC valve): Keep the start and end points the same, on the carb and distributor, but just run a single hose between the two, without stopping at the widget.

A good 2bbl setup was available from the factory, and it's not a difficult swap into your '76. You will likely eventually want to do this. But start as suggested here first.

heres another link w/ some more of Dans good information-- this page on your tune up, although your 1976 head doesn't have spark plug tubes, so you'll need different spark plugs than listed on the link. Get NGK UR4's stock #6630. SSDans post is the second one, not the first dan on there. http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... ht=#138010
