Post subject:  Fuel Tank Evap Canister, PCV and Super Six Intake

I spent last night sorting out and replacing vacuum lines and sorting out the how and why of what I need to connect.

With 1 bbl setup there were a total of 4 lines to the canister, one from the fuel tank, one thick line that went to the fuel bowl vent, and another thick one that attached to a vacumm switch on top of the cannister to a nipple placed about the middle of the carb (from top to bottom) pointing tothe passenger side of the car, and finally a small vacuum line that operated this vacuum switch and o beleive on the 1bbl went over to the vacuum booster. (The booster is now gone.)

I am running a Carter BBD. I have the PCV valve line going to the large nipple at the base of the carb in the back. The vacuum canister line that was originally connected to the fuel bowl vent back to the fuel bowl vent at the top front of the carb.

There is one open medium size nipple at the base of the carb in between the 2 idle mixture screws. I belive the cannister line attached to the the vacuum switch on the cannister should go here. It would make sense that the valve is closed with the car off to capture the fumes. Once running manifold vacuum open the switch and allows the canister to vent into the combustion chamber.

(To figure this our I shot carb cleaner into the 1bbl and saw that it leaked directly into the carb throat. On the 2 bbl I shot carb cleaner into the nipple between the idle mix screws and this also vented directly into the carb throat just at the throttle plates.)

So it seems to me that this vacuum operated line from the cannister should go to the nipple in between the mixture screws.

My question is if I am correct about the placement of the line does the vacuum for the switch just go to intake manifold vacuum or should it be switched so that it only opens once the enging warms up? I still have the heat sensing vacuum switches in the block.

Thank you,
Scott
