I remember there being a discussion on the use of a late model Nippendenso Alt and the voltage running around 15volts. I believe Charlie used a adjustable regulator to fix this problem. With my setup (Denso and 74 regulator) I have always had around 14.2 volts but the voltage was and is bouncie. The head lights have always kind of flashed from bright to more bright ect. I now have an electric fuel pump which I can hear and it too osculate with the voltage.
I took the car to my favorite starter and alternator place to try to solve the unsteady voltage and during testing they found a diode to be bad in the alternator. I pulled it on the spot and they repaired it in 10 min. Now the voltage runs up around 15.2 ish and still in unstable. They are recommending the heavy duty adjustable regulator that looks just like my 3 wire but has an adjustment on the back. I have every belief that this will fix the high voltage issue, but ya think it will fix the unsteady voltage?

I doubt it will fix the unsteady voltage. Could be high wiring resistance? I don't see any problem with this, and certain high loads will make the voltage vary (like turn signals). I think many new cars have very high output alts, which smooths out variations with idle speed and such.

The adjustable regulator came in and I put it in on the spot and the voltage was high at 15.2, and still unsteady. The guy tested here and there, grounding and testing ect. He was convinced there must be something wrong with the wiring. We "double up the wires in question and the results where the same, still unsteady. The adjustable regulator did bring the voltage down but didn't fix the unsteady voltage. We decided to convert THIS alternator to a internally regulated one wire. The only wire hooked to the alternator is the big high amperage wire. I now have a rock solid and steady 14.4 volts at the battery. The only time the voltage moves is when the turn signals are on and the voltage movement is very hard to see. In the end the whole deal cost $85. (diodes and internal regulator installed)
