I'd like to thank those who offer counsel , especially dusteridiot, when I logged on here several months ago, about rebuilding my 833a trans. I payed two local chimpanzes , to pull it out (I'm 66 and have pulled my last trans) and went through it myself. I installed a kit , less syncros, which were perfect. Also installed a new pilot bushing , throw out bearing , pressure plate and clutch disc. I was very impressed with this trans, my previous experience was with 50's Ford three speeds and 50 GM three speeds, they are very tinny by comparison. It now shifts like a hot knife through butter! Its a bit stiff on cold mornings, as it has 80 /90 gear lube in it. I'm amazed at the use of ATF ,but after searching past posts , it seems to be an option.Would you recommend I change it? By the way I found a fellow with a D150 parts truck . it has a loose rod , but it also has a 833a and of course the flywheel, pressure plate and bell housing.If any one can use it , I will connect them with the owner of the parts truck. The truck is trash and not movable. |

It's expensive, but I really like Redline MT-90 in the A833. Otherwise try to find 80W-90 GL-4. GL-5 is for hypoid gears and is too slippery for good synchronizer function. |

Glad it all came together for ya! Josh has a good point, make sure to use GL-4 only, hypoid rear axle lube will cause some missed/skipped shifts. I've been driving them long enough that the morning 'first run around the block' stiff cold shifts are second nature, but the MT would help that a bit, ATF is what mopar factory specified, so you can drain the case and see what you like better, each person has an opinion based on their experiences on what they like best. -D.Idiot |

Rock, if memory serves me correctly it is an '87. I'll can him and find out, for sure. Thanks for the info on the gear lube , I'll check the container and see what I have in it. |
