The Electrical Service Manual for my '76 Volare Wagon indicates the spark plug to use in my 225 engine is the Champion RML13Y or its equivalent. Anyone know if the plug is still correct or has it been supersided by a better one? |

In my '78 Volare coupe I use NGK 6630 plugs. I'm not sure what the Champion number is... |

Okay, the part number on the Champion box is 25, but there is another number on the plug itself. |

Never heard of "RML"; RBL, yeah, and then, they went to an "RV" prefix, that replaced the "RBL's"

Champion and Autolite are junk; avoid them if you can. Spark plug numbers (not inventory/stocking numbers): use NGK #UR5 (standard) UR5GP (platinum) or UR5IX (iridium), in order of increasing cost and durability and decreasing voltage requirements to fire. You may want to start with the least-costly plugs (the UR5) and see how they run. If they cold-foul (not likely), then move to a heat range #4. If you get pinging and the plugs read hot, then move to a heat range #6. Once you figure out which heat range works best in your application, then if you like you can go to the premium plugs. |

Looking at the Chassis Body Service Manual I received recently, under "Specifications" it tells me the plug to use is an "RBL13Y." I'm going with your recommendation Dan. If anything interesting develops from this point on I will comment on it. Next items I want to have in my emergency kit are spare: Ballast Resistor, ECU, Voltage Regulator, Coil, and Distributor (with new innards). |
