I got the nice aussie composition gaskets for the manifold and heat riser, and thanks to them no leaks there, but the gasket connecting the manifold to the exhaust system promptly blew out. I used a generic Fel-Pro one from NAPA, I seem to remember my wife's old Dart had the same issue but I can't remember how I solved it. is there something I'm overlooking? It's easy enough to change out, so I will do that in the next couple of days. |

Yeah I used remflex gaskets in my Subaru WRX which has a million flanges in the exhaust system and lots of exhaust side pressure. They're good stuff, but cannot ever be re-used. |

They said they can be re-used, but the only one I tried to re-use blew out completely so it's difficult to say. |

I have reused them with no problems on the exhaust pipe fitting. I your going to run your engine for a race then tear it down and want to reuse them again, just spray on some PAM to each surface. That way they won't stick. That goes for the manifolds or exhaust pipe gaskets. |

I reused my Remflex exhaust flange gaskets once so far. Still seals. (I have dual exhaust, so I have two) |

Cool, thanks for the advice. The only reason I worry is because I plan to rebuild the motor soon and would like to save $ wherever I can. |

I have seen several vehicles where oversize exhaust has been installed and the muffler shop welds the pipe to the flange in such a manner that the upper edge of the pipe protrudes beyond the manifold side of the flange preventing the flange from properly seating against the manifold. The next tiem you have the flange unbolted, run a straight-edge over it and make sure the pipe doesn't protrude above the flange. If it does, just grind it down. Otherwise, warping (as previously mentioned) or corrosion can cause gaskets to blow. |
