hey guys my starter is starting to go, i do have 5 normal slant six starters but there all used and i don't wanna be changing starters every few months.

so my question is what car (year, make, model, and engine) does the slant six mini starter come from, because i will run up to CSK and buy one. plus my new exhaust setup is rather larger so i need the smaller starter.

thanks u guys rock!

neil

Oh well, if it was a mini, I was just going to say 'rebuild it'

I THINK any small block starting in 89+ will work.Last one I bought came out of a 96 Dakota with a 5.2. Im pretty sure the V6 starter from those same years will work. How much does CSK charge for a mini starter? The yard around here wants 45,which seemed kind of steep.

A 90's Dakota with a 318 is a good reference to use. Rockauto sells the brand new NipponDenso unit (P/N 2810109) for ~$150 and the Bosch unit also brand new (P/N SR6504N) for ~$156.

The newest ones don't have the correct nose and won't last in a slant. You need one from a Dodge truck from about 2000 or earlier with 3.9L V6 or 5.2L (318) or 5.9L (360) V8. A Dakota, Ram or full size van should be a good donor.

Growing older is unavoidable but growing up is strictly optional.

Neil, this topic has been covered in great detail, with nice sharp photos and stuff, many times before. Is the board's "Search" function working okeh for you? If not, please say something so we can fix it.

Keep in mind that "remanufactured" parts and off-brand "100% new" parts from the parts store are not worth the money, time, and effort...

You ain't jokin. Denso and Bosch for me whenever there's an electric motor involved, if at all possible.

What's up with the larger gauge yellow connected to the black wires? Just redundancy for the ground?

Can't be a ground. The big connection is battery + and the small one is the solenoid connection to the ignition switch.
