I'm trying to decide between the comp cam 264 and the erson 270. I want to get the erson but want to hear from those who have it with a auto trans. My compression will be about 8.6 and the head has the large valves and is ported.

Stock torque converter? Any way to get the compression ratio up a little?

It is a stock converter. The compression might be a little higher the head is machined .080 but are stock pistons.

Those cams should behave essentially identically. Both are rated at 220 deg @0.050". You're on the edge for using a stock converter, but it should be OK if you set the cam centerline at 100 deg (ignore their recommendation). You could also ask Erson to put a slightly lower duration lobe on the exh side.

I don't think I'd change the cam without also changing to a higher stall torque converter. Giving up torque at the converter's stall speed by changing to a longer duration cam will slow initial acceleration. And if you're using restrictive stock exhaust the cam may not net you any gains at higher RPM.

I will get a higher stall converter and a less restrictive exhaust.

If you are getting a higher stall conv (shoot for 2600-3000 for a street car), then you might want a bigger cam. The "RDP" 280/270 (more int than exh) Erson grind should work very well with that combo. Otherwise, the Erson 270 will work well too.
