ok my front and back turn signals work. none of my side ts's work and my right side ts's on the top of the fender (the ones for the driver to see) work but the left side doesnt. what could be the problem. also why we are on the subject of electrical issues, my dome light and cigarette lighter do not work. any ideas? |

My experience would suggest a bad ground at one of the turn signal housings. A circuit seeking a ground will do strange things to turn signals. I don't have a schematic for your car, but the cigar lighter and dome light are usually on the same circuit, so I'd first check the fuse. I've had these crappy Chinese fuses look like they are okay, but they wouldn't conduct. Also verify that the power wire is attached at the fuse box. |

Start with the simplest and most common failure point: Bulbs! You can get the special mini bulbs for the fendertop turn signals here. The amber front and red rear lights on the sides of the car are not side turn signals, they're sidemarker lights. They're wired so as to light up steadily whenever the parking lamps or headlamps are turned on, so turn on your headlights and see if those sidemarker lights come on. If any of them don't, you've probably got dead bulbs there, too. The best bulbs for brightest output from the sidemarkers are these. The electrical hookup of your car's amber front sidemarker lights can easily be slightly changed so that they do double-duty as sidemarkers and side turn signal flashers, see here. This is a very good safety improvement, as your turn signals become visible to the side instead of just front- or rear-on. Do it only on the front amber sidemarkers, not the rear red ones. See this post for more info on improving exterior light/signal performance, and this post for an explanation of why you shouldn't use those "LED bulbs". And yes, the cigar(?!) lighter and dome light are often on the same circuit, so do check that fuse, but find the reason why the fuse blew. Often it's something dumb like a coin or piece of chewing gum foil having fallen into the lighter and shorted it out. |

Dan has good advice. I once purchased a 72 Demon that had no dash lights. Turns out the fuse and wiring was fine, but every single bulbs on the instrument cluster was out! The previous owner included a flashlight so I could see the guages at night. |

My front signals work/don't work whenever they feel like it, for some reason. I want to do that side marker turn signal conversion, that sounds like a great idea! Quote: Dan has good advice. I have the same problem, but all my lights are new. Still no explanation as of yet... |

Now that sounds like faulty grounds.

I recently had a 1157 bulb get very flaky; I thought it was the socket, but turned out the filament inside the bulb had fractured at the support and most of the time made a connection; other times not. If I tapped the bulb I could get the filament to move slightly and open up. |
