There are differences in airflow, jetting, calibration, and (choke) linkage. Some of the V8 carbs work fine on slant-6 installations — notably the ones without holes in the throttle plates. The ones with a hole in each throttle plate tend to make it hard to achieve a correct (low enough) idle speed. The choke linkage hookup difference isn't too hard to work around. Many (myself included) have made the 273/318 2bbl carbs work just fine on a 225. The factory was very vocal about not making this swap, but they had Federal new-car emission certification violations to worry about. Carburetor operation and repair manuals (and some training movies) are posted here for free download. The BBD material is very extensive and detailed. |
