Hi guys,

Ill be posting a lot and I appreciate your help. Quite simply for now I would like to know if there are places on this site that have specific step by step instructions for various projects. Right now I would like to put in a new front suspension and while doing so convert to disc brakes. I am a step by step kind of guy and good at following directions. A schematic with those kind of instructions would be very helpful. It is for a 1964 Valiant by the way. I tried using the search but it gives me a message that says general error. Anyway any help is greatly appreciated..thanks Mark

Step-by-step instructions for re-building your front end can be found in your trusty Factory Service Manual, as is the procedure for replacing your Master Cylinder and bleeding the lines. Full details of the swap can be found right here with judicious use of the search function (if the search is giving you an error message, try using less words eg. Disc instead of Disc brake swap ).

Essentially, the drum-to-disc swap is just a front end rebuild, but you are substituting disc brake control arms and spindles for the ones that came in the car, as well as replacing the master cylinder with a drum/disc unit and replacing the proportioning block.

It really isn't as scary as it sounds (I was worried sick when I did mine, but looking back, there was nothing to it.)

thanks Nat. Everything I plan on doing sounds a bit overwhelming. I find that I usually figure how to do something about the time ive finished. Anyway I appreciate the help. I am finding that the search feature is a bit tempramental. Mark

My point is, get a factory service manual for your year/model. It has step-by-step instructions on how to do what you want to do (a front end rebuild). The only difference is the fact you'll be substituting some parts (UCAs, spindles, master cylinder, proportioning block, flex lines.....). Again, I can't stress enough the importance of having a year/model appropriate factory service manual.

There are ARTICLES here, but most are about engine work. Good reading!

Which swap are you considering? Late A-body, Scarebird, aftermarket ...? The late-A swap worked well on my '64.

FSM's give a lot of good info. Get one for your car, and it's a good idea to get one for each significant donor.

Better check that. A '73 Dart with factory disks should have the 4.5" bolt pattern, not the 4" small bolt pattern.

It looks like all the subframe-out parts are there.

You'll also need pads, bearings, a disk master cylinder, distribution block, some brake line to adapt to the dual circuit setup, and possibly bushings.Seems pricey to me, especially with calipers that need rebuilding.

What are you going to do for wheels?

That setup will bolt right in but as has been noted, the bolt patttern will be different. You'll need to find a way to deal with that. Most just swap in a different rear axle, one with the 5x4.5" bolt pattern to match the front disks. That's a fairly easy swap but it means more work and more $$$. You will also need to change your wheels to match the new bolt pattern. With the disks you'll need a minimum 14" wheel made to fit disk brakes,
