Post subject:  Transmission tunnel

Harking back the auto-manual transmission swap question, one of the mods. necessary is putting a manual trans. body hump in the body of a car set-up for an automatic trans.
While checking the sogginess of my rug after the rain I noticed a block-off plate in the floor of my car that looks suspiciously like where a shifter would go- there is even a raised area.
My question: Could my car possibly be set up to put in a manual transmission without the body mod?

My broadcast sheet reads a "7" under the transmission heading- what does this translate to?

Stonethk,
As far as I know, all of the 60-61 Valiants had the blockoff plate. My 60 was a factory pushbutton car and it had the plate and my 61 was a 3spd manual and had the shifter was where the blockoff was.The good news is,yes, your car is partially setup for a manual trans, the bad news is that it is only setup for the 60-61 3 spd with the canted trans and bellhousing and stock shifter which bolted to the floorboard. In 60-61,the trans actually tilted 30 degrees to the driver side of the vehicle and the shifter bolted to the floor insteadof the trans.
I have installed a late model a-body 4spd od in my 60 and had to add the hump which will work from 63-66 model a-bodies or you can fab one up to mimic the factory peice like I did.I do have the factory bellhosing and trans from my 61 but nothing else if your interested.

Thanks H.V.
Yeah I think the coffee started to work from front to back in my brain-the front part being charged enough to turn on my computer- back part being where the info on the tunnel has to be changed out for a 4 speed and not a 3.
