My 74 Dart Sport steering wheel was factory black. There was a slight crack at the 12:00 position, so I took some JB Weld and filled in the crack. After sanding it down, it looks good but the JB Weld is gray. What kind of black paint should I use to spray the gray to the original black? Is is a flat, gloss, etc?

Going to be very difficult to get a patch/match job that'll be invisible after the paint dries — you're probably going to want to clean, prime, and shoot the entire wheel so it winds up all one colour, and all one finish. I'd recommend a semi-flat (semi-gloss, satin) black paint. Painting plastic is very different than painting metal or wood, and it's harder to get good adhesion. See my armrest post.

I used a plastic etching primer for mine (after serious repair surgery and smoothing) They recommend that you apply your top coat while the etcher is still tacky. I did a base coat, metal flake in clear and a bunch of clear to follow. So far it still looks great with no cracks but it's less than a year old so time may tell. I'm also really careful to have no ring contact.

I wonder how Krylon Fusion would stand up to steering wheel use? I used it on my defroster vents with good results, but those have no contact, sweat, et cetera to wear them. Just a lot of sunlight.

I couldn't track down exactly when I painted the vents, but I think it's been at least three years. If it does fade, refurbishment is a spraycan away. The color is a satin burgundy, which looks OK with the red interior.
BTW, the vents were from a '66 Valiant, and were blue IIRC. The vanes in mine had long since turned to dust. A little scrubbing with a green Scotchbrite pad cleaned up the newer vents and prepped them for paint.
