My cars front end seems to be "bouncy", but it's not my shocks, i got new ones like 7 or 8 months ago, In the morning i will look again to make sure i didnt miss anything

the torsion bars on my 63 valiant 225 are shot and before I put the motor back in I want to replace them. I can't find them. any leads. The bushing that goes on the bar and the "k" frame is toast. Many alignment places, no go, Napa, No go. Do I have to get an old tire and cut them myself? |

You probably dont need to replace the bars....just the bushings. The bushings are in the A arm. |

Is there any chance you're referring to the strut rods (run from the outside end of the control arm forwards to the k-frame) rather than the torsion bars (run from the inside end back to the frame)? I ask because there is no bushing that goes between the torsion bar and the k-frame. The torsion bar goes from the frame to the socket on the back of the control arm. The strut rod, however does have a bushing between it and the k-frame. If so, PN# NCP2748999 from your friendly Napa dealer should fit the bill. Hope this helps, Nat |

All A-body torsion bars are interchangeable by the set (you have to put the LH bar on the left, and the RH bar on the right). You can upgrade to heavier-duty bars easily, new or used. Mancini Racing has a couple different sets of A-body bars ($310/set, tho). A search on www.car-part.com for 1976 Dodge Dart Torsion Bar turns up plenty of options for used ones. The V8 air conditioned cars got the '892/'893 bars that are a nice upgrade for the early 6-cylinder cars. Torsion bar hardware including boots (rubber or polyurethane) and clips, you can get here amongst other Mopar vendors. You may also want to check with ESPO and see what they have for torsion bars; they don't list them on their site, but they also don't list rear leaf springs and yet they're one of the better sources for 'em. |

weird thing, one day we went to go look under my car to mess with the torsion bars, and mine is non-adjustable unlike most others.. Cant tell why.. maybe someone else can help? |

They are adjustable. Perhaps your adjustor bolts are broken off or (gulp!) missing. |

Could be! We have a original service manual and the picture the book shows, doesnt look like mine, i think i am missing the bolt. If so, would this affect alignment, driveability,etc? |

Did you look into the lower control arm from the bottom? I'd bet $1 the adjusting screw is there. With stock torsion bars and no adjusting screw the suspension would be bottomed out hard. |

The adjusting bolt could be wound up all the way and hiding, or rather, recessed between the outer sides if the lower control arm due to a weak torsion bar. Look for a 3/4" head of a bolt facing the ground in line with the half moon cut outs on the side of the control arm. How meny miles on this car? |

thats a great question. I saved the car 5 years ago from a Tweeker in Pasadena, they're great starters........need I say more. I won the bid war on ebay. it only cost me "originally" $256. He started to restore it from a junk yard deal. no title no paperwork of any kind. The motor was shot, #1 rod thrown. The car was almost complete. complete enough for me to buy. so for the mileage. I couldn't even tell you. what I have done is: Complete motor overhaul. !st one the machine shop miss aliened the rear cam bearing just enough to #@%* that rebuild. the engine is put back together again and I started to tear down the suspension. man that's a lot of work. only have the drivers side done. |
