I'm on a buying spree for my engine build, and am curious how far most people go with replacing stuff. New fuel pump, oil pump, and dist, to ride on the new cam. Car had 5k on a tune up, so do you replace cap/rotor/plugs/wires for the principle of it? And do you stop there, or get a new coil, too? And that leads to ignition module, and ballast resistor... Where do you stop? |

I always replace the oil pump (or rebuild it) when doing an engine swap. I never replace anything else unless... 1) It had a known problem. 2) The part crumbles as I take it off. (water pump, thermo. cover and hoses tend to do that) Basically, all the "surface parts" are easy to replace with the engine installed so if I see a problem after the engine runs, that is when I replace the item. Hey zorg, It's good to see you're still gettin' greasy! Just be sure to wash your hands before you pick up your camera for photos! |

Hey Rob! I'm way in over my head with this rebuild, but loving every minute of it. Should be ready for the machine shop next week. Things are real busy at work right now, so it's taking longer than I wanted. Oh well. Clean my hands first? There's a reason I ordered my camera in black! http://www.demulsion.com/life/?p=122 I've been meaning to say hi, I noticed you over on sweptline.org. Your '56 looks like a clean little truck! Can't wait to see pictures of you '69. |

I didn't know you were on Sweptline! What's your screen name over there? I don't have pics of the '69 yet, but hopefully soon... I don't remember you needing to rebuild your engine. I thought it ran pretty well. What did I miss? BTW. Surf over to godsrods.com when you get the chance. Chris has changed the website over to a forum. It's just getting started. It'll be a great place for Christian car enthusiasts to get together. |
