i just got 66 dart back from the engine shop, they put a remanned 6 in it. it idles choppy the guy at the shop said it was the carb, (someone put a rochester 2 jet on it before i bought it), what kind or carter or holly 2 bbl carbs did they use on these? Also was there a difference in gearing in the 904s? cause it takes off quick but it has almose nothing after that. Another thing, my gauges dont work nor do my winshield wipers but all the lights on the instrument panel come on. whats up with that? please help me thanks MIKE axis_909@yahoo.com |

There are some 2 barrel carbs from the Super Sixes that can be used. I don't recall a 2 barrel as stock on a '66. Also, low power could be a clogged muffler or tight valves. The lights on the instrument panel are independant from the gauges and wipers. The gauge problem could be broken traces on the circuit board or a bad instrument regulator (maybe even a loose connector on the circuit board). For the wipers, check the switch and connections to the switch. Chuck Quote:

The '66 SL6 used a 1 bbl carburetor. A 2 bbl Carter BBD was stock on the '77-'80 super six engines. The 2 bbl Holley 2280 was an aftermarket replacement for the SL6 Carter BBD. If your '66 has a 2-bbl intake manifold, then it has been converted, and can use either of these carburetors. Bob D BBobbias@aol.com |
