'64 Valiant Signet 200. Which dual resiviour master cylinder do I want to use on this? I took off an old dried up dual res. and replaced it with one just like it however there is no pedal. I bench bled it and got it where I can squirt fluid out all four wheels but it won't pump up, you have to pull the pedal off the floor each time however it is actually applying brakes (in the front at least). Any idea what could be wrong? How long should the push rod on the master cylinder be? Does anyone know a good part number for a tried and proven dual cylinder for this make and model? Thanks, Jeff |

If you have all drum brakes, non power assist, Raybestos MC36221 $44 at www.rockauto.com should be acceptable. You need a later distribution block to split the front and back brake lines. BLK245 @ www.inlinetube.com should work for you. I would suggest replacing the rubber brake hoses as well, as routine maintenance. That might fix your pressure problem. Use the pushrod from your old master cylinder. |

Also watch out for REMANS as they can be bad out of the box...Some one a while back went thru 3 or 4 before he gave up and bought a NEW one. Frank |

Thanks guys. I just bought a remanufactured one and think I got taken. Who ever changed to the dual res. before I got the car ran the res. for the rear straight to the brakes and the res. for the front brakes to the proportioning? valve and split them from there. I'll try the Raybestos one that slantfin recommended. Thanks again, Jeff |

Yeah and others of us that bought reman booster assemblys (ass'y= includes the master) and when the auto parts store refused to warranty JUST the master (I ain't pulling the booster again if I don't HAVE TO) put our 30 year old original master back on the reman booster! and still going strong!

That sounds correct, to me, if you have 4 wheel drum brakes. The 64 just has a distribution block, not a proportioning valve. If you have front disc brakes then you should have a "proportioning" valve in the rear brake line.

Just an FYI. Bought the Raybestos master cylincer listed above from a local parts store for " Holy *$&^ $107.00. OUCH !!!!. I'll let ya know when I get it put on how it pans out. Jeff |
